In 2020, I decided to begin my Self Portrait Project, a project that I hope will span my whole career. Each year, I will create a self portrait that highlights concepts and aspects of the work I created that year. With each addition to the project, I will map the trajectory of my work over time. My first piece in this project is an oil painting, Self Portrait 2020 (Pulling My Hair Back), which incorporates my interests of subtle color (a new interest of mine that I began exploring in mid-2020), perception, and ambiguity (in this case, of gesture).
