After Hours explores themes of time, structure, and meaning. I captured each of these photographs in the moments between the visits of gas station customers to highlight the uncanny stillness and emptiness of the American gas station—a site typically associated with speed and movement. The series recalls the work of Ed Ruscha and Bernd and Hilla Becher, whose pieces meditate on the sameness of structure between ordinary pieces of architecture. My pieces, through repetition and isolation of form on dark black backgrounds, ask the viewer to create meaning from this sameness.
